  Family Camp

Session A - August 8 - 14, 2005
Session B - August 15 - 21, 2005

Family Camp is a unique part of Cazadero Performing Arts Camp’s summer-long program of music sessions offered in a beautiful old-growth redwood grove in the Russian River Valley. At Family Camp, families and friends share the memorable experience of playing and learning together in a warm, supportive and creative environment. Our diverse program is tailored to meet the needs of kids, teens, and adults, with a wide range of classes in music and the expressive arts for all levels, and a staff of some of the most talented and supportive musicians and teachers in Northern California.

The spectrum of offerings includes art, drama, and dance, as well as classes in such creative arts as storytelling, environmental art and crafts. For little ones, we have a fine staff of childcare professionals with plenty of experience helping kids have fun. In addition to providing a rich, high quality program, Family Camp offers a diverse, inclusive environment where everyone can learn to play and perform with support and encouragement. With the affirmation of campers and staff, all of these elements combine to create a sense of community that makes Family Camp so exceptional, one where the artistic spirit in learners of all ages is encouraged to awaken, blossom, and grow.

CAMPER PACKET
In July, you will receive a final camper packet that includes: class & housing assignments, maps, a list of what to bring to camp, camp policies, and other information. With very few exceptions, the camp does not provide instruments or equipment (please refer to the class descriptions to know what you need to bring).
€ Please note that all instruments, equipment, and belongings are brought at campers’ own risk. You may be able to insure your musical instruments through your homeowners’ policy.

DAYS
Classes are held Tuesday through Saturday (two in the morning and two in the afternoon), with free time, quiet time, and open mic interspersed throughout the day.

EVENINGS
Evening activities include staff and camper concerts, special guest performances, evening jam, dances, and campfires.

PERFORMANCES
Final performances take place Saturday night and Sunday morning.

GOODBYES
Lunch on Sunday is the last meal served. Departure time is 2:00PM Sunday.

FAMILY CAMP LIFE

RECREATION
Daily free time activities include open mic, crafts, swimming, basketball, games, ping-pong, softball, volleyball, and badminton. You can always practice or rehearse (but not during quiet time!). Many campers enjoy exploring Austin Creek, which runs through camp. For the more adventurous, a short drive can lead you to beautiful Pacific coast beaches, bike scenic state parks, canoe down the Russian River, visit wineries, golf, or visit historic Fort Ross, Guerneville, or other delightful, historic hamlets nearby.

MEALS
Three delicious meals are served daily in our dining hall. Campers with special meal requests (vegetarian, no-dairy or food allergies) can indicate their needs on the registration form. Unfortunately we cannot prepare vegan or wheat-free meals.

ACCOMODATIONS
There are four options for housing at Cazadero:
€ Tent cabins, our charming signature lodgings, accommodate up to six people comfortably, and come with bed frames and mattresses. Due to the limited number of tent cabins, we request that families wishing to stay in tent cabins make up groups of four or more. Families of three or less wishing to stay in tent cabins pay an extra fee of $200.
€ Dorm rooms, which accommodate two-three people.
€ Tent camping is available in designated areas throughout the site.
€ RV/Car camping is available in the parking areas (no RV hookups).

Weather in August is pleasantly temperate. All campers need to bring their own bedding i.e. sleeping bags, sheets, pillows. The camp provides clean indoor restrooms and private showers. We make every attempt to satisfy specific housing requests, but must take into account children’s ages, family sizes, and special needs.

FAMILY CAMP REGISTRATION Download registration form:

€ We offer an installment plan using your VISA or MasterCard, or by check, with a first payment due 3/1 and a final payment due 5/1.
€ Payment in full is required by 5/1/05.
€ There are no refunds after 5/1/05.

Cazadero’s planning, hiring and expenses are directly determined by the number of registrations received in the early spring. Therefore, no refunds are made for early withdrawals, cancellations or no-shows (regardless of accident, illness, or change of plans). The $40 registration fee is non-refundable. Any requests for refunds must be made in writing. Commercial tuition insurance can be purchased for health related cancellations; visit www.insuretuition.com for details.

DISCOUNTS
A 10% discount is offered per family for:

WAITLIST
Applications received after registration is full are put on a waiting list. Applicants will be notified of their status.

GUESTS
As space and resources are strictly limited in Caz’s fragile ecosystem, only a few guests can be accommodated to visit for day or overnight stay.
€ If you wish to have visitors during camp, you must notify the registrar by July 15th at familycamp@cazadero.org or call 510-527-7500.
€ Guests rates for meals and lodging will be provided upon contact or visit www.cazadero.org.
€ When arriving at camp, guests should check in with the camp office and sign required waivers.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Please consider making a contribution to our scholarship fund – help keep our camp open to everyone!
€ A limited number of scholarships are available to families in need of financial assistance.
To apply for a partial scholarship for your family, please email familycamp@cazadero.org or call 510-527-7500 ext. 15.

WORK EXCHANGES
There are a limited number of work exchange positions available to qualified campers.
€ Work exchanges involve a camper working part-time at camp for a reduction in their camper fees. Work exchanges are not scholarships, and campers who obtain work exchanges are not considered staff.
€ Availability of work exchange positions depends on specific needs for the program.
If you are interested in a work exchange, please email familycamp@cazadero.org or call 510-527-7500 ext. 15.
