We are heartbroken to share that “Bill” William Robert Lutt, age 68, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 26th, 2024, while visiting family in Berkeley, California.
Bill Lutt was a graduate of Berkeley High School (class of 1974), received his B.S. in Political Economics from the University of California (Cal Berkeley) in 1979 and an MBA from Golden Gate College in 1983.
The founder and former owner of World Projects, Inc., a global performing arts event, music festival and touring business, he had started his career as a freshly minted MBA becoming the business manager of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and was subsequently instrumental (pun intended) in the re-establishment of Cazadero Music Camp at the City of Berkeley’s Cazadero campsite in 1996. Bill was an all-around supporter of the arts, music education for youth and an independent performing arts professional.
A current resident of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro in the Philippines, he had developed a boutique hotel and was living with his daughter and fiancé in his own tropical paradise. Bill was an avid Pétanque player, always knowing where to perfectly place the balls. A connoisseur of different genres of music, an avid reader of books, a history buff, and a lover of the classics, Bill came to know the answer to Tower of Power’s eternal question; “What is Hip?”
Preceded in death by his father, he is survived by his mother, his daughter Sachiko Beth, fiancé “Athena” Dasco, and his brother Brian and sister Rebecca.
A private family service will be held at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, California, and a celebration of life for friends and family will be planned for a future date. Please do not send flowers, but if desired, donations may be made to the Bill Lutt Endowment Fund or the general fund at Cazadero Music Camp. Donations by check can be mailed to PO Box 7908, Berkeley, California 94707 or online donations can be made here and indicate Bill Lutt endowment on your donation.
